How do we know what we know?
Now that we understand about our gaps in knowledge, how do we go about finding things out?
Science has some pretty good ways of figuring things out. You can use the scientific method to test hypothesis, measure things, make observations, and document what you find.
We’ve been learning a lot from each other during this course, through having philosophical discussions and sharing our stories. Talking and sharing is one of the oldest ways humanity has passed down knowledge and skills through the generations.
Are you starting to see that there are other ways of knowing things?
Indigenous and folk people have developed unique ways to navigate, engineer buildings and tools, and administer healthcare over thousands of years. Instead of writing this information down, they share these details through their stories, songs, and customs.
Scientists have started to work more closely with indigenous groups, and have come to realize that this other way of knowing things has a lot to offer.
