Dr. West, director of the Zeis Textiles Extension took me under his wing, and let me test a lot of experimental ideas during the summer of 2023.
I Convinced the Flex Factory to purchase a Bambu Lab P1P 3D printer with an AMS for multicolor printing.
Used the printer to design various collectables within the college.
3D printed "Tuffy" earrings (which branding wasn't too happy about ;D).
Flex Factory button keychains.
USAID promotional buttons for a project in Honduras.
Banner for Meta's visit to NC State using my wireless power transfer coil design.
The moment I showed them the banner, and placed my phone over the coil, the whole team simultaneously shouted "WOAH!" (Seeing the design light up must have caught them off guard.)
3D Printed Wolf Earrings
3D Printed for a USAID project.
I printed over 200+ of these buttons for the Flex Factory (I don't have a picture of the final product, but they hand them out)
I designed and 3D Printed Tuffy vest buttons in collaboration with designer Lainey Volz. Tuffy wore the vest at the 2023 Clemson vs. NC State football game.
We made many iterations, and settled on this design.
I helped 3D print this for the fashion studio. This enabled a student to produce phenomenal work.
An exercise in working backwards from established 3D models. I created a a test jig to test the "liveness" of the yarn as an investigation into yarn knittability.
The Plastic Covers Used Prior Were a Safety Hazard.
Dr. West Contracted me to Build a Better System.
Thomas of NC State Facilities Helped Bend the Metal For Me.
Picture getting your fingers stuck during use. Ouch!
Transferring the cardboard outline to a metal sheeet. The metal needs to be bent in a specific order to minimize processing issues.
The final box on the other side.
When designing a complicated or large-scale system, the easiest prototyping method usually provides the quickest solution. Initially, I wanted to make a grandiose CAD model, but I realized that it would be faster and easier to prototype with cardboard and bent metal.
Verifying dimensions prior to making the final sheet metal box.
The prior protective cover for the device. A true safety hazard.
