In the study conducted by Connolly et al., (2023) they found that "consuming a meal with two oz-eq of unprocessed lean pork or whole eggs resulted in greater postprandial EAA bioavailability compared to a meal with two oz-eq of black beans or raw sliced almonds in (1) young adults; (2) older adults; and (3) young and older adults combined."
Due to recent recommendations and updates in Canada's Food Guide for consumers to begin eating more plant based proteins instead of animal proteins, I was curious to determine the research behind such recommendations. With many friends who are vegan, we need to understand how to eat in ways which meet personal needs and how we can support a nutritious diet.
The hope of this app would be to utilize AI and information about animal proteins and plant proteins, how plant protein profiles can be paired, and consumed in a responsible way, so as not to jeopardize longterm human health. There would be additional recommendations made by the planner for consumption of vitamins and minerals in conjunction with the protein, to promote bioavailability and absorption.
"Many plant protein food ingredients are relatively new, which means that there is little published information about modifying them to improve functionality, and strong potential for new developments in this respect." Day et al., 2022.
