Whether you're traveling between the Hawaiian Islands, flying to the U.S. mainland, or heading to an international destination, knowing the airline's baggage allowance, size limits, and packing recommendations will help you prepare with confidence.

This guide explains Hawaiian Airlines baggage rules, including carry-on allowances, checked baggage, weight restrictions, and practical packing tips for 2026.

Overview of Hawaiian Airlines Baggage Rules

The Hawaiian Airlines baggage rules vary depending on your ticket type, destination, and loyalty status. Passengers are generally allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item free of charge, while checked baggage allowances and fees depend on the fare purchased and travel route.

Before flying, it's always a good idea to review your ticket details to understand the baggage policy that applies to your reservation.

Carry-On Baggage Allowance

According to Hawaiian Airlines baggage rules, passengers may usually bring:

• One standard carry-on bag

• One personal item, such as a backpack, laptop bag, or purse

Your carry-on should fit in the overhead compartment, while your personal item must fit underneath the seat in front of you. If your bag exceeds the permitted dimensions or weight, it may need to be checked at the airport.

Checked Baggage Allowance

Checked baggage policies depend on several factors, including:

• Fare type

• Travel destination

• Cabin class

• HawaiianMiles membership status

Most Economy passengers pay a fee for checked baggage, while First Class travelers and eligible elite members may receive complimentary checked bags. Additional or oversized baggage may incur extra charges.

Always confirm your baggage allowance before your departure to avoid surprises at check-in.

Weight and Size Limits

One of the most important Hawaiian Airlines baggage rules involves weight and size restrictions.

In general:

• Standard checked bags must remain within the airline's weight limit.

• Bags exceeding the maximum weight may be subject to overweight fees.

• Oversized baggage may also incur additional charges.

If you're carrying sports equipment, musical instruments, or specialty luggage, separate baggage guidelines may apply.

Packing Tips for Hawaiian Airlines Travelers

Following smart packing practices can help you stay within the Hawaiian Airlines baggage rules while making your trip more comfortable.

Pack Light

Bring only the essentials to reduce baggage weight and avoid excess baggage fees.

Use a Luggage Scale

Weigh your suitcase before leaving home to ensure it meets the airline's weight requirements.

Keep Valuables in Your Carry-On

Items such as passports, medications, electronics, chargers, and important documents should always travel with you in your carry-on bag.

Organize with Packing Cubes

Packing cubes help maximize suitcase space while keeping clothing and accessories neatly organized.

Review Restricted Items

Before packing, verify that prohibited or restricted items are not included in your luggage to avoid delays during airport security screening.

Special Baggage

Under Hawaiian Airlines baggage rules, passengers may travel with special items, including:

• Golf clubs

• Surfboards

• Bicycles

• Musical instruments

• Mobility devices

• Baby strollers and child safety seats

These items may require advance arrangements or additional fees depending on their size and destination.

To reduce travel costs, consider these helpful tips:

• Check baggage fees before booking.

• Purchase baggage online if discounted rates are available.

• Stay within the airline's weight and size limits.
