Historia

Chia, the Bogotá suburb housing our host universidad, is named for a Moon goddess of fertility of the indigenous Muisca people.

The town dates back to Pre-Colombian times and was the site of a sacred temple to this goddess.

Bacatá, meaning "Lady of the Shining Mountain", was the name given to this region on the high plateau by those original inhabitants. The city of Bogotá was founded as the capital of the New Kingdom of Granada by Spanish conquistadors in 1538 and has remained the country's capital throughout its history.
