This Privacy Policy describes how Ertuğrul Sarı ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and handles information when you use UV Index: Sun & Tan Tracker (the "App"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
The App is developed and operated by Ertuğrul Sarı, an independent developer. For any privacy-related questions, contact us at estifieapps@gmail.com.
We built this App with privacy in mind. Here is the short version:
We do not have user accounts or authentication systems.
We do not collect, sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers.
We do not use any third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
We do not operate any backend server. There is no remote database of your usage, locations, or sun-exposure history.
All of your in-app data, including your profile, saved locations, and tan session history, is stored only on your device.
Health data is read from and written to Apple Health under your explicit permission and never leaves your device through us.
Subscription management and billing are handled exclusively by Apple's App Store.
When you complete onboarding or use the App's settings, you may provide profile information such as your first name, your skin type on the Fitzpatrick scale (I–VI), the goal you want to pursue (for example controlled tanning, vitamin D awareness, or sunburn protection), your typical daily sun exposure pattern, your preferred units (metric or imperial), your preferred appearance (system, light, or dark), and your notification preferences (reapply reminders, peak-UV warnings, safe-again alerts, daily summary). You may also save named locations (such as "home" or "beach") that include a label and the coordinates you selected. Your tan session history (each session's start time, duration, and recorded UV index) is logged when you finish a session in the App. All of this data lives on your device and is never uploaded to any server we operate.
When you open the dashboard, change your active location, or pull to refresh the forecast, the App sends the latitude and longitude of your active location to Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com), a public weather forecast service, in order to retrieve the UV index, hourly forecast, sunrise, and sunset for that point. The request contains no account, no device identifier, and no API key. Open-Meteo does not require any of those. The response is cached on your device and made available to the App's home-screen widgets and Live Activity through on-device storage accessible only by this App and its widgets.
With your "While Using the App" permission, the App reads your coarse location (approximately hundred-meter accuracy) so it can fetch the UV forecast for your current point. Apple's geocoding service converts your coordinates into a human-readable city and country label so the dashboard can display where the forecast applies; that reverse-geocoding request is processed by Apple's servers under Apple's privacy policy. We do not store your coordinates on any server. You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings. When you do, the App falls back to whichever location you most recently saved.
With your explicit permission, the App reads and writes the following data type in Apple Health:
UV Exposure: read so your in-App history reflects sun time logged by other apps or devices, and written as one sample per completed tan session containing the average UV index across the session and the session duration.
This data stays in your Apple Health account, which is governed by Apple and protected by your device passcode and iOS encryption. The App never uploads HealthKit data to our servers, to Open-Meteo, or to any third party. You can revoke read or write access at any time from the Apple Health app.
We do not collect your email address, phone number, or any contact information. We do not collect payment card details. All subscription purchases are processed exclusively by Apple. We do not collect advertising identifiers (IDFA) and the App requests no App Tracking Transparency permission. We do not collect behavioral analytics, browsing history, or cookies. We do not access your photos, camera, microphone, contacts, or calendar. The App declares no usage descriptions for any of those permissions.
Your on-device data is used solely to power your personal sun-exposure dashboard within the App. Your skin type, goal, and exposure pattern personalize the SPF burn-time estimate and the vitamin D estimator. Your saved locations let you switch between forecast points without re-granting GPS access. Your tan session log feeds the in-App history view and, with your permission, the UV exposure record in Apple Health. Your notification preferences drive locally scheduled reminders that are evaluated on your device.
When you request a forecast refresh, your active location's latitude and longitude are sent to Open-Meteo as described in Section 3 to retrieve UV and weather data. The response is rendered on screen and cached on the device for the widget and Live Activity.
Notification reminders are scheduled and delivered locally by your device based on the preferences you set. We have no access to your notification preferences, your delivery history, or whether you opened a notification.
We do not sell, trade, or rent your information to anyone. Data leaves your device only in the following narrowly-scoped circumstances.
Apple: Apple Health stores your UV exposure samples under your Apple ID and your device's encryption. Apple's geocoding service converts your coordinates into a city and country label. Apple processes all in-App subscription purchases and renewals through the App Store. Local notifications and Live Activities are scheduled through Apple's notification system. All of these are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
Open-Meteo: When the App refreshes the forecast, the active location's latitude and longitude are sent to Open-Meteo's public API to retrieve UV and weather data. No identifier accompanies the request; Open-Meteo does not require an account. Open-Meteo's terms and privacy policy: https://open-meteo.com/en/terms
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or valid legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Ertuğrul Sarı, our users, or the public. Because we operate no backend server and hold no user database, the data we could disclose is limited to records voluntarily provided to us by email.
Your profile, saved locations, tan session history, notification preferences, and subscription state are stored on your device only. Uninstalling the App deletes every record we created on your device. Tan sessions written to Apple Health remain in your Apple Health account until you delete them in the Apple Health app or until you delete the source. Forecast data fetched from Open-Meteo is cached on your device only for as long as it is needed to render the dashboard, the widget, and the Live Activity, and is overwritten on the next refresh. We retain no logs of your forecast requests because we do not operate the server that answers them.
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the App, please contact us at estifieapps@gmail.com and we will take appropriate steps.
Because we do not maintain a user account database, nearly all of your data resides on your device or in your Apple Health account, which you control directly.
To delete all on-device data, including your profile, saved locations, and tan session history, uninstall the App. iOS removes every file the App stored on your device when the App is uninstalled.
To revoke the App's permission to read or write Apple Health data, open the Apple Health app, tap your profile picture in the top-right corner, then tap Privacy → Apps → UV Index: Sun & Tan Tracker and tap Turn All Categories Off. You can also reach the same controls from Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → UV Index: Sun & Tan Tracker.
To delete UV exposure samples that the App has already written to Apple Health, open the Apple Health app, tap your profile picture in the top-right corner, tap Privacy → Apps → UV Index: Sun & Tan Tracker, and tap Delete All Data from UV Index: Sun & Tan Tracker. Individual samples can be removed under Browse → UV Index by tapping a sample and using the edit menu.
To revoke location access, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → UV Index: Sun & Tan Tracker and choose Never.
To disable notifications, go to Settings → Notifications → UV Index: Sun & Tan Tracker and turn off Allow Notifications.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have rights under the GDPR and the UK GDPR to access, correct, or erase personal data we hold about you, as well as rights to data portability, restriction, and objection. Because we operate no server-side database and hold no user records beyond email correspondence you may have sent us, most of these rights can be exercised directly by uninstalling the App or revoking permissions. For any remaining requests, contact us at estifieapps@gmail.com.
If you are a resident of Turkey, you have rights under the Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK No. 6698), including the right to learn whether your personal data is being processed, request information about it, request its correction or deletion, and object to processing that produces results against you. Contact us at estifieapps@gmail.com to exercise these rights.
If you are a California resident, you have the right under the CCPA to know what personal information we collect about you and to request its deletion. We do not sell personal information. Contact us at estifieapps@gmail.com for any requests.
The single network request the App makes (to Open-Meteo for the forecast) is protected using HTTPS/TLS encryption. Data on your device is protected by iOS device encryption when the device is locked. However, no method of data transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We disclaim liability for any unauthorized access to data transmitted between the App and third-party services such as Apple and Open-Meteo.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document and, where appropriate, through a notice in the App or the App Store listing. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
