1st Time Access

As we described on the 10,000 PROWs page, there are two steps involved in becoming an Adopter:

• firstly, contact the District Coordinator to tell them your preferred Parish. When you're accepted, we will add your email address into the system, and send you a invitation

• secondly, after you get the invitation, you will need to open the sheet (eg Uttlesford Parishes, Adopters), and see if you can Sign in.

The invitation looks like this:

Signing In

Our Parish Paths Adopters system is hosted by Google.

We have to control who is permitted to add and change data (our Adopters and Coordinators) and who is not (the rest of the world).

So, we require Adopters to sign in, either:

• with their non-Gmail email address, registered with Google, or

• (if you have one) using an existing Gmail address

(Adopters can use Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox or any other Browser to sign in.)

After you click on 'Open in sheets' in the invitation, you will see a screen similar to the one below.

If the button on the top right says 'Share' - you can start typing in data straight away.

If the button says Sign in, then go to 'Signing in with an existing Gmail address' at bottom of this page

But if the button says 'SIGN UP TO EDIT', then you will have to sign up with Google first:

Sign up with a non-Gmail email address

If you are not a signed-up Google user, you will need to register your non-Gmail email address with Google. To register, open the page Create your Google Account. It will look something like this:

(If you know that your email address has already been registered with Google, you can choose the Sign-in option on that same screen, and once you have entered your password, you should be able to start entering data into your District spreadsheet (eg Uttlesford Parishes, Adopters).

Fill in your First name, Last Name and the email address you want to register. Type in a password (and keep a note of it somewhere !). Press Next.

A verification code will be sent to the email address you gave.

Note: some email systems treat this email as spam - you might have to look in your email system Spam/Junk folder!

Type in the verification code on the screen below:

If you found the code and typed it in correctly, you should see this screen:

• no need to enter a mobile number.

• you don't even need to enter your real Date of Birth or Gender - but you will need to record them somewhere safe alongside your password.

Click Next, and you should see a Privacy Notice.

Check the boxes and click Create Account.

That's it. Google now recognises you. You are logged in on your Browser.

If you then open your District Spreadsheet, it will look something like this:

The first initial of your Forename will be displayed in the disk to the right of the Share button (top right).

Finally, send an email to telecall@essexarearamblers.co.uk saying you have completed these steps. We will need to make a minor internal change before you will be able to make changes.

Signing in with an existing Gmail address

If you are an existing Gmail user, you will get the same invitation at the top of this page.

Click Open in sheets, and your District parishes, Adopters spreadsheet will open, you should see 'Share' top right and you will be able to make changes to it.

Troubleshooting

If the spreadsheet opens on the same machine or browser as your Gmail, you should get access straight away, but if its a different machine or browser, try logging into Gmail on that one, then refreshing

If you open the spreadsheet and it says 'View only' (top right), you need to be added to the 'Share' list. Contact: telecall@essexarearamblers.co.uk

If you open the spreadsheet and says 'Share' (top right), the Protection needs to be updated. Contact: telecall@essexarearamblers.co.uk
