3rd SUMMER SCHOOL OF THE EUROPEAN SOCIETY FOR THE PHILOSOPHY OF MATHEMATICS
The ESPM Summer School 2026 will take place at Santa Teresa dei Maschi (University of Bari), in the heart of Bari’s historic city centre (Bari Vecchia).
Strada Santa Teresa dei Maschi, 26, 70122 Bari, Italy
Participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodation. Bari offers a wide range of hotels, guest houses, B&Bs and short-term rentals. Since the Summer School will take place at the end of the summer season, we recommend booking early, as accommodation prices may still be relatively high.
The most convenient areas for reaching the venue are Bari Vecchia, the Murat district, the area around Bari Centrale, and Madonnella. These neighbourhoods are within walking distance of the venue.
In addition to the main international accommodation platforms, participants may also wish to check some local or regionally based options, such as: BB Puglia or Apulia Accommodation.
Bari has an urban bus network operated by AMTAB. Tickets can be purchased from authorised retailers or through the MUVT app. Routes and timetables are available on the AMTAB website. The city centre is relatively compact, and many places can be reached easily on foot.
The Summer School can be reached on foot from Bari Centrale railway station in approximately 20 minutes. Bari Centrale is served by regional and long-distance trains connecting Bari with the main Italian cities. The nearest airport is Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport (BRI): a direct Ferrotramviaria train connects the airport with Bari Centrale in approximately 17 minutes. Taxis are also available outside the arrivals area.
The climate in Bari is Mediterranean, with hot and generally sunny summers. At the end of August and in early September, you can usually expect temperatures around 25–32°C, although warmer days are possible. Occasional showers or thunderstorms may occur. We recommend packing light clothing, sunscreen, a hat and a reusable water bottle.
Bari is the capital of the Apulia region and is located on the Adriatic coast. The city centre can be explored comfortably on foot; places of interest include:
Bari Vecchia, the old town, with its narrow streets, small squares and traditional architecture;
the Basilica of Saint Nicholas, one of the city’s best-known landmarks;
the Muraglia, the walkway along the old city walls;
the Lungomare, Bari’s seafront promenade;
Teatro Petruzzelli, Bari’s historic opera house.
Further information about Bari and the surrounding region is available on the official tourism portal of the Apulia Region.

Martinelli – Fish O’Clock. Just a few minutes from the venue, in the heart of Bari Vecchia. A good option for an informal meal or aperitivo, offering seafood sandwiches and other fish-based dishes.
Pescobar. On the seafront, about a 15-minute walk from the venue. A good option for an informal meal, offering seafood sandwiches, fried fish and other street-food dishes.
La Uascezze. In the heart of Bari Vecchia, a short walk from the venue. In case you fancy a proper sit-down restaurant serving traditional local dishes.
