About Me

My last name rhymes with frozen, and is an americanization of the Ashkenazi Jewish name Rozinko. My first name is pronounced ez-may, and is of Scottish origin.

I am a passionate bird-watcher, and have photographed birds around the world. Below are a few of my photos. I also enjoy cooking, hiking, and playing tennis, and I occasionally play the viola.

My relatives in math

My late grandfather, David Rosen, was a mathematician for many years at Swarthmore College, whose research focused on Hecke groups and continued fractions. I wrote an expository paper on his dissertation my first year, intended for non-number theorists. Hecke groups actually parametrize families of hypergeometric motives, and so there is a tenuous connection with my research. The relationship between continued fractions and hypergeometric motives remains unexplored.

My late father, Michael Rosen was a geologist and is not to be confused with the number theorist Michael Rosen, best known for writing An Introduction to Modern Number Theory with Kenneth Ireland. There is no relation between me and any other mathematicians with the last name Rosen, aside from my grandfather.
