The teacher has a simple picture in mind related to the topic of study. For example, an animal, a room, a person.
Step by step, the teacher tells the students what to draw. Repeating slowly.
For example, "Draw a girl with long hair. Draw a small flower next to the girl. Draw a large dog behind the flower."Â
The teacher shows the picture to the students, and students compare their pictures to each other, noting similarities and differences.
Good for elemental, media, and superior.
Are you learning animal vocabulary and listening comprehension? Play Simon Says! Students do action only if the teacher says "Simon Says." For example, the students are tortoises.
Simon says, "Stick out your neck."
Simon says, "Crawl slowly."
Simon says, "Chew quickly."
But if the teacher says, "Crawl quickly," and the students do it, they are out of the game.
You can do this with any topic.
Students practice asking questions with "Teacher, may I?"
Students stand in a line, across from the teacher.
The teacher calls the names of some students and says, "Students, you may take 2 steps forward." (The teacher decides how many steps.)
The students must say, "Teacher, may I?" and the teacher responds, "Yes, you may."
If the students have asked, "Teacher, may I?" they may take the steps. If not, they cannot come forward.
The students who reach the teacher first are the winners.
Variation: Use other action verbs (jump, hop, skip, slide, twirl).
As a warm up or between parts of a lesson, take a brain break with creative movement.
The teacher names an animal and makes a motion. For example, the teacher and students move their heads like a blue-footed booby and make the booby's call.
Students can suggest other animals and a motion.
