TITLE: Factors Affecting Students’ Interest in Learning Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) Competencies in the Junior High Schools in Echague, Isabela.
Reflecting on Student Interest in Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE)
Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) is a technical subject that equips students with practical skills in preparation for different career pathways. Teaching this subject to young learners is challenging; beyond imparting technical skills, a teacher must also ensure that the learning process is engaging.
A study on student interest in TLE examines the multiple factors that influence how engaged students are with the subject. Understanding these factors is crucial not only for improving classroom practices but also for helping students recognize the value of TLE in their educational journey and future careers. Personally, I believe that when TLE is taught in an engaging and relevant manner, it can significantly boost student motivation and better prepare them for real-world challenges.
Many students struggle to engage with TLE, often perceiving it as overly difficult or less enjoyable than other subjects. This struggle is frequently linked to their level of competency—if students lack confidence in their abilities, they are more likely to view the subject as boring and difficult to learn. I have observed similar trends in various educational settings, where a lack of early success in a subject can create a cycle of disinterest. This highlights the importance of providing students with positive early experiences, as these shape their long-term attitudes toward learning.
The effectiveness of teachers is another significant factor in driving student interest and motivation. When educators excel at presenting material and integrate hands-on activities, students tend to be more engaged. Conversely, when resources are scarce or teaching methods are outdated, student engagement diminishes. I recall instances where interactive projects and real-life applications made complex concepts more accessible and exciting, demonstrating that better resources and innovative teaching strategies can dramatically enhance student engagement.
From my reflections, it is clear that making TLE more engaging and relevant is essential. Curriculum reforms that align teaching methods with student interests and real-world applications could serve as a catalyst for change. Moreover, the roles of teachers, schools, and policymakers are crucial in transforming TLE into a subject that not only imparts technical skills but also inspires passion and creativity. The insights gained from research and personal observations emphasize the need for a collaborative effort to improve student engagement in TLE. Fostering a more engaging and supportive TLE environment can empower students to realize their potential and prepare effectively for future career opportunities. Future research and continuous improvements in the TLE curriculum are essential to ensuring that this vital subject remains relevant and impactful in our evolving educational landscape.

Assessing Pre-Service Teachers’ Level of Technical-Vocational and Pedagogical Competencies in Southern Philippines
Preparation is a crucial part of education. Pre-service teachers should develop the required and necessary competencies to succeed in their future classrooms. Teaching Technical Livelihood Education (TLE) is not an easy task, some may think that it is just teaching technical skills to the students. A teacher must have technical skills to teach a specific learning area in TLE.
The study on assessing pre-service teachers’ competencies sheds light on their technical-vocational and pedagogical skills, particularly in Southern Philippines. Evaluating these competencies is essential in identifying strengths and areas for improvement, ultimately shaping the quality of education delivered to students. Reflecting on this study emphasizes the significance of well-structured teacher preparation programs that equip educators with the skills needed to meet the demands of modern classrooms. It reveals that pre-service teachers generally perceived themselves as “competent”. This means that they possess an adequate level of preparedness to enter the teaching profession. However, competency in real-world teaching goes beyond self-assessment; it requires adaptability, critical thinking, and continuous professional growth. The actual classroom experiences test a teacher’s ability to apply these competencies effectively.
One of the study’s key findings highlights high competency in "Diversity of Learners," "Learning Environment," and "Curriculum and Planning." These strengths are important in establishing inclusive and engaging learning environments where the students feel supported in their learning journey. Effective planning of curriculum will help teachers to align their teaching instructions with the learning objectives while understanding the diversity of learners to ensure that the chosen pedagogy will cater different needs of their learners. These competencies have a significant impact on teaching effectiveness, ensuring that the learners will receive quality education despite their abilities and backgrounds. On the other hand, the study identifies challenges in "Assessment and Reporting" and "Personal Growth and Professional Development." Assessment techniques are critical for measuring student learning and guiding instruction, yet many pre-service teachers struggle with applying diverse evaluation methods. Continuous learning and self-improvement are also essential, as education is a dynamic field requiring teachers to stay updated with new methodologies. Addressing these gaps is vital for ensuring that pre-service teachers transition smoothly into professional practice with a strong foundation in assessment and lifelong learning.
As an educator teaching TLE subjects, we should engage ourselves in different activities and programs related to my specialization for my professional growth, therefore I can adapt to the rapid changes in educational methodologies. I believe that we cannot share what we don’t have, that is why we need to immerse ourselves in exploring and learning various innovations and developments to ensure that we are giving the quality education needed by our learners to make them as a globally competent individual. But also, there are other factors of challenges encountered by the teachers to make them competent such as inadequate budgets, insufficient facilities, and limited industry support. These constraints hinder hands-on training, which is crucial in technical-vocational education. Without access to updated equipment and materials, pre-service teachers and in-service teachers may struggle to develop practical skills required for their specialization. Addressing these issues through increased funding and industry partnerships would enhance the overall quality of teacher training programs.
Another challenge lies in pedagogical competencies, particularly in classroom management. The ability to establish positive teacher-student relationships, handle behavioral issues, and create an engaging learning environment is crucial for effective teaching. Adaptability and interpersonal skills play a significant role in addressing these challenges. Mentorship programs and peer collaboration can provide pre-service teachers with the necessary guidance and support to develop these competencies before entering the classroom. Asking for help and guidance from our cooperating teachers and even our professors can help us develop and adapt strategies for managing our classroom.
Reflecting on the study’s findings shows the importance of comprehensive teacher preparation programs. While pre-service teachers generally demonstrate competency, areas such as assessment techniques and continuous professional development require further attention. Investing in teacher training ensures that educators are well-equipped to provide quality education, leading to better student outcomes. Therefore, strengthening teacher competencies contributes to the overall improvement of the education system in preparing future generations for success in a rapidly changing world.

Enhancing Teacher Preparation Through Simulation-Based Training: A Reflection
Teacher preparation is a crucial aspect of ensuring high-quality education, particularly for novice teachers who are still developing foundational teaching skills. The study on the use of the TLE TeachLivE™ simulation laboratory explores how virtual classroom simulations can enhance pre-service and in-service teachers' ability to manage and facilitate academic instruction. By incorporating structured feedback and repeated practice, the study demonstrates that simulated training can significantly improve instructional techniques. Foundational teaching skills are essential in fostering a productive learning environment.
From a personal perspective, simulation-based training offers a promising approach to teacher preparation. It provides a structured environment where aspiring educators can refine their skills before entering a real classroom. The ability to practice teaching strategies in a controlled setting allows teachers to build confidence and competence, ensuring they are better equipped to handle diverse classroom challenges. This kind of technological innovation allows teachers to explore different teaching strategies that can be used for facilitating learning either in physical or online classrooms. Moreover, one of the greatest advantages of the TLE TeachLivE™ simulation is that it offers a risk-free space for practice and improvement. Unlike real classrooms, where mistakes may directly impact student learning, a virtual setting allows teachers to experiment with various teaching techniques without fear of negative consequences. The natures of TLE subject are to introduce concepts theories applicable for the different careers and also to let the students experience and learn the technical or practical skills required by the industry to prepare them for their future careers. As the nature of this subject might not be possible to achieve in an online learning but it becomes possible through the continuous innovation and development of technology.
This study shows that there are many accessible tools available online that can help us to practice and develop our knowledge and skills. I know that learning is a continuous process, we can learn at all times in many ways. On this day and age, we are provided by the use of internet with many opportunities that would help not only the students but also the teachers to grow personally and professionally. As a 21st century learner and educator, I have encountered different application software and websites that has the same feature with TLE TeachLive™ that allows teachers to gain ideas for their lesson planning, teaching strategies, activities, and also provide instructional materials to make the learning process more interactive and engaging for the learners. By offering a safe space for practice, structured feedback, and repeated exposure, simulation training significantly enhances teacher preparation. However, teachers should still continue to learn not only with the use of internet but also using our daily experiences in teaching students inside the classroom. A blended approach that integrates both methods ensures that teachers are well-prepared for the complexities of modern classrooms. Lastly, improving teacher preparation programs through technology-driven training will contribute to higher teaching quality and better student outcomes. By continually refining teacher development strategies, educators can be better equipped to meet the needs of diverse learners and create meaningful learning experiences.
