Lyceum of St. Dominic Inc.’s Experiential Learning Modules are divided and presented into seven units that correspond to the learning domains of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST). The activities and artifacts for each module follow the LSDI model which was locally developed and adapted by the College of Education for the FS 1, FS 2, and Internship purposes.
The LSDI Model is an acronym for the flow of activities to facilitate the completion of reports on the said field study courses. Thus, it is comprised of the following parts: Learning Targets Activation, Searching for Evidence, Deepening Understanding through Reflections, and Igniting Commitment.
A. LEARNING TARGETS ACTIVATION
Domain 7 focuses on teachers’ personal growth and professional development. It accentuates teachers’ proper and high personal regard for the profession by maintaining qualities that uphold the dignity of teaching, such as caring attitude, respect, and integrity. This domain values personal and professional reflection and learning to improve practice. It recognizes the importance of teachers’ assuming responsibility for personal growth and professional development for lifelong learning.
At the end of the experiential learning courses (FS Courses and Teaching Internship), as a Beginning Teacher, I will be able to:
Articulate a personal philosophy of teaching that is learner-centered.
Demonstrate behaviors that uphold the dignity of teaching as a profession by exhibiting qualities such as caring, attitude, respect, and integrity.
Seek opportunities to establish professional links with colleagues
Demonstrate an understanding of how professional reflection and learning can be used to improve practice.
B. and C. : SEARCHING FOR EVIDENCE & DEEPENING UNDERSTANDING THROUGH REFLECTIONS
Domain 7 Strand 1: PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING
Teaching is more than just imparting knowledge—it is about shaping minds, fostering critical thinking, and inspiring students to find meaning in their learning. As a beginning teacher, my philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief of maintaining the dignity of teaching, as emphasized by former Secretary of Education Leonor Briones. She emphasized the vital role educators play in equipping students with the ability to navigate the complexities of the world. This principle has guided me in my journey as an aspiring educator, reinforcing my commitment to positively influencing my students' lives.
Throughout my practicum teaching internship, I have strived to build strong relationships with my students, understanding that a foundation of mutual respect and open communication is key to effective learning. I firmly believe that creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment is essential for student growth. Teaching Gen Z learners means acknowledging the profound impact of their surroundings—what they see, hear, read, and experience shapes their perspectives.
In my time at Sta. Elena Integrated School, I observed how students connect their classroom learnings with real-world experiences, particularly those rooted in their home environments. This insight has strengthened my resolve to integrate real-world applications into my teaching, ensuring that students not only acquire knowledge, but also recognize their role in the community and their potential as future professionals.
As a 21st-century educator, my teaching approach is student-centered, focusing on active learning, engagement, and inquiry-based exploration. I employ a variety of strategies to guide students in acquiring essential knowledge, honing their skills, and developing their values. Contextualized learning is at the core of my instruction—I encourage students to connect lessons with their own experiences and to engage in meaningful discussions. By posing thought-provoking questions and facilitating open dialogues, I help students develop critical thinking skills, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
My teaching philosophy is dynamic, constantly evolving to meet the diverse needs of my learners. I believe that an effective teacher must be reflective, adaptable, and emotionally attuned to students' experiences. A sense of humor, creativity, and a willingness to embrace new perspectives are crucial in creating a vibrant classroom environment. I recognize that students mirror the qualities of their teachers, so I strive to embody the values of curiosity, integrity, and lifelong learning.
Ultimately, education goes beyond textbooks and assessments—it is about nurturing a passion for learning and empowering students to seek answers, challenge ideas, and explore the world with curiosity and purpose. My goal as a teacher is to inspire my students to see learning as a lifelong journey, where they not only gain knowledge but also develop the wisdom to apply it meaningfully in their lives. By fostering a love for learning, I hope to leave a lasting impact, ensuring that my students carry the lessons they learn in my classroom into their futures as responsible, thoughtful, and driven individuals.
Domain 7 Strand 2: DIGNITY OF TEACHING AS A PROFESSION
As a future professional, I will uphold the discipline that is worthy of emulation. I recognize that my actions, values, and work ethics will not only define my career but will also serve as an example for those I guide and interact with.
Integrity, dedication, and a commitment to continuous learning will be the foundation of my professional journey. By embracing ethical principles, fostering inclusivity, and striving for excellence, I aim to inspire others and contribute positively to my field. Through my actions, I hope to leave a meaningful impact, demonstrating that true professionalism is not just about knowledge but also about character, responsibility, and service.
As a future educator, I have started building my character as a role model student and student leader. I have been actively engaged not only in academics but also in various extracurricular activities. My experiences in leadership and participation in different events have helped shape my discipline, dedication, and ability to connect with others. I believe that being a good teacher begins with being a responsible student—one who is eager to learn, collaborate, and serve as an inspiration to others.
Domain 7 Strand 3: PROFESSIONAL LINKS WITH COLLEAGUES
Building and maintaining professional links with colleagues is essential for personal and career growth. As a preservice teacher, I recognize the value of collaboration, open communication, and mutual support in fostering a productive and positive work environment. Establishing strong professional relationships allows for the exchange of ideas, best practices, and innovative teaching strategies that ultimately benefit students.
Engaging with colleagues also promotes a culture of continuous learning and development. By attending professional development programs, participating in academic discussions, and seeking mentorship, I am able to refine my teaching methods and broaden my perspectives. Furthermore, networking with fellow educators enhances teamwork and ensures a collective effort in addressing challenges within the educational system.
Beyond professional growth, meaningful connections with colleagues create a supportive environment where educators can uplift one another, share insights, and navigate challenges together. A strong professional network leads to a sense of belonging, motivation, and resilience in the ever-evolving field of education. By nurturing these relationships, I can contribute to a more collaborative and dynamic learning community, ultimately enhancing the quality of education for my students.
Domain 7 Strand 4: PROFESSIONAL REFLECTION AND LEARNING TO IMPROVE PRACTICE
Continuous professional reflection is essential for growth and improvement in teaching. My experience during my pre-demo and final demo teaching reinforced the importance of receiving constructive feedback from Master Teachers. Their insights allowed me to identify both my strengths and areas for improvement, guiding me toward becoming a more effective educator.
Through their feedback, I gained a deeper understanding of lesson planning, instructional delivery, and student engagement strategies. I learned how to refine my questioning techniques, manage classroom interactions more effectively, and enhance my teaching strategies to ensure meaningful learning experiences for my students. Their observations also helped me recognize the importance of flexibility and adaptability in the classroom, allowing me to adjust my methods based on students’ needs.
Professional reflection has taught me that learning does not stop after a lesson is delivered; instead, it is a continuous process of assessing, refining, and applying new strategies. By actively seeking feedback and embracing a growth mindset, I can continue to evolve as an educator. The insights I gained from my mentors serve as a foundation for my professional development, inspiring me to strive for excellence and provide quality education to my students.
Domain 7 Strand 5: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GOALS
"Intellectual growth should commence at birth and only ease at death." -Albert Einstein
Entering the field of teaching means entering a lifelong learning. My initial plan before I pursue this field is to graduate college, earn a degree, find a job, and provide for my family. But suddenly, it changed as I look to the faces of my students. They say that teaching is a noblest profession as it plays fundamental roles in shaping the future of individuals and society.
Educators should have continuous professional development to enhance my teaching skills and contribute to student success. My practice teaching experience has allowed me to reflect on the areas where I need growth and improvement, shaping my professional development goals. These goals will serve as my guide in becoming an effective, innovative, and student-centered teacher.
Furthermore, I recognize the importance of lifelong learning and staying updated with the latest trends in education. To achieve this, I am planning to engage in continuous professional development by earning numbers of National Certificates from TESDA, graduating this program with flying colors, preparing and passing in licensure examinations, applying for teaching jobs, pursuing graduate studies, participating in teacher training programs, and collaborating with fellow educators to share best practices. Also, I aim to build strong relationships among my students, their parents, colleagues, as well as the community. Education is a collaborative effort, and fostering a supportive learning community is essential to student success.
Professional development is a lifelong commitment that every educators should embrace. I will continue learning for this field as what my future learners need. This professional growth will contribute to the success of the future generations.
D. IGNITING COMMITMENT
With my commitment thermometer still at MAXIMUM LEVEL, I stand ready to ignite minds, fuel dreams, and light the way toward a brighter future for every student I encounter. Because for me, teaching is not just a profession—it is a lifelong mission to inspire, educate, and transform lives. 🔥📚
