EV Charging Station

Why is this station important?

Cars are one the biggest emitters of carbon, methane, and nitrous oxide. These greenhouse gases speed up climate change which has detrimental effects such as extreme weather events, health problems in people, and loss of habitat for species. One way that we can cut back on these emissions is by promoting the use of electrical cars through this charging station on campus. Electric cars cut back on emissions by almost 50 percent and are one of the cheapest car options (Larsen, 2020). If we promote people to make the switch we not only cut back on these emissions but help save money in the long run.

What will the sign for the EV charging station include?

A QR code that links to this page will be on the electric vehicle car charging station. This page will be dedicated to not only informing electric car owners but also showing them different amenities on campus. We want car owners to not only charge their cars but become more aware about climate change. We know that not all car owners understand that their car choices are impactful on our environment. By giving them the opportunity to charge their cars on campus, we hope that they will be more informed about the impacts of their daily decisions.

What to do on campus

Pearly Pond: When driving on University Dr., you will find our beautiful lake which provides visitors with a place to kayak, paddleboard, and even ice skate in the winter.

DiPietro Library: Come browse our collection of books, journal articles, and DVDs here for both research and recreational purposes.

Library Cafe: Looking for a quick snack or energy boost? The Library Cafe offers an assortment of pastries, fruit smoothies, and coffees!

More To Do on Campus: Campus Trails

On a nice day, car owners can visit the three different trails that are available at Franklin Pierce. Each trail is unique in that they can be taken depending on how much time you have on your hands. The Red Trail is the longest is around 2.25 miles and the others are much shorter. We hope that any and all visitors will take the time to appreciate the beautiful scenery on these trails.

More Facts About Electric Cars

  • 80% of the energy in an electric vehicle battery is transferred directly to powering the car, whereas in a gasoline-powered vehicle only 15% of the energy goes directly toward powering the car.

  • Switching to drive an electric vehicle can reduce your carbon footprint by up to 50%. (MMWEC Helps Program)

  • On average, the cost to power a vehicle by electricity is half the cost per mile to power it by gasoline, and electricity prices are much more stable than gas prices. (MMWEC Helps Program)

  • Gasoline vehicles are responsible for $37 Billion in health and climate costs each year. If electric vehicles represent 65% of all vehicles in only 10 states by 2050, those costs would drop by $21 Billion. (MMWEC Helps Program)
