Mentor Requirements:
I understand that I must maintain my clear teaching credential with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).
I understand that the program requires two years of participation.
I will be required to attend 75% or better of all mentor training and ongoing training at mentor academy meetings.
I understand that I must make regular weekly contact with the candidate, with face-to-face meetings occurring a minimum of every other week, for a minimum of 1 hour per week.
I will seek to build trust in my mentoring relationship by honoring confidentiality and supporting the ongoing work identified by both the candidate and his/her district goals.
I will model the professional standards as described in the CSTPs.
I will be attentive to the needs of the candidate to ensure that my services remain beneficial to their professional growth, and will be open to collaborating with the Program Coordinator should by services not be meeting the candidate’s needs.
Mentor Responsibilities for the Candidate:
Develop a trusting relationship with my candidate characterized by openness, sharing, and reflection.
I further understand that a recommendation for a clear teaching credential is separate from my employment status in my district.
Mentor, observe, and provide formative feedback to the candidate.
Provide support to my candidate by gathering information, contacting personnel, or other resources as needed.
Assemble evidence in the form of an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) based on a job-embedded focus within the California Standards of the Teaching Profession (CSTP).
Assist my candidate in completing and revising, as needed:
Individual Development Plan (IDP)
Self-Assessment on the Description of Practice
Individualized Learning Plan (ILP)
Creating an online Google document of supplementary evidence
Mentor/Candidate Program Documentation and Requirements
Mentor/Candidate Contact Log
Observation and Feedback documents
