International USAR Training, Coordination & Deployment Readiness
ERTSAR has worked within this international response framework for approximately 25 years. This page provides information and training resources for ERTSAR members preparing for international USAR, humanitarian coordination and deployment.
UN OCHA is the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, responsible for coordinating international humanitarian response.
INSARAG is the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group, the UN-coordinated global network that develops standards and methodology for international Urban Search and Rescue (USAR).
Our ERTSAR members train and operate around INSARAG methodology, international coordination, deployment readiness and self-sufficiency, with training, knowledge, skills and experience across Search, Rescue, Medical, Management and Logistics functions as well as other required aspects such as safety and security.
Current focus: 2026–2028 UK USAR Renewal Programme
Rebuilding and documenting a capable UK international team around current INSARAG methodology, with a focus on Light USAR capability, international coordination, member readiness and future IEC development.

UN INSARAG IRNAP
INSARAG Guidelines encourage member states to establish a national accreditation process that is developed, adapted, and framed in the member state’s own reality and recommends using the INSARAG Guidelines as reference.
In addition, the 2020 INSARAG Guidelines encourage the member states to go even a step further by requesting the INSARAG Recognized National Accreditation Process (IRNAP), which certifies that the USAR system in the member state is completely in accordance with the INSARAG Guidelines methodology.
