Erping is currently a Professor and Director of Bioinformatics Center in the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences at Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College. Erping completed his M.D., Ph.D. in Clinical Medicine of Ophthalmology in 2020, from the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (#1 eye hospital in China). His thesis focused on translating artificial intelligence into clinical benefits for visually impaired infants, mentored by Drs. Yizhi Liu and Haotian Lin. Dr. Long conducted an independent part of his doctoral research at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he worked with Dr. Jianzhi Zhang on how evolutionary force shapes the genetic risk of human senescence and disease. Erping completed his postdoctoral stage in the laboratory of Jiyeon Choi at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), where he conducts research that leverages computational approaches and large-scale functional genomics resources to understand genetic susceptibility to lung cancer and melanoma. Erping has received multiple awards for his work, including the NCI Director’s Intramural Innovation Award, the NIH Fellows Awards for Research Excellence, the NCI Informatics Tool Challenge Award, the Ray Wu Prize (the highest honor for Chinese Ph.D. students in Life Science), and the Excellent Young Scholars Program funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
