Data used in the book, The Origins of Elected Strongmen (with Andrea Kendall-Taylor and Joseph Wright) can be found here. These data capture levels of personalism in ruling parties of the world's democracies from 1991-2020.
Autocratic Regime Data Set
This is a collaborative project with Barbara Geddes and Joseph Wright to gather data on dictatorships, supported by the National Science Foundation. It includes data on regime start/failure dates, failure event variables, and regime type for over 200 autocratic regimes in 122 countries from 1946 to 2010.
The Autocratic Regime Data Set can be found here. It is the winner of the 2015 Lijphart/Przeworski/Verba Data Set Award.
How Dictatorships Work Data Set
Data used in the book, How Dictatorships Work (with Barbara Geddes and Joseph Wright), can be found here. These data build on the Autocratic Regime Data Set to include time-varying characteristics of autocratic regimes. Our measure of personalism can be found at this site as well.
