Dr. HDR Anastassia Borisova is Senior Scientist (CNRS) at Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées (Laboratory of Géosciences Environnement Toulouse), Toulouse, France. Dr. HDR Borisova was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Université Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium; Institut des Sciences de la Terre d'Orléans, Orléans, France; and Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées, Toulouse, France. She was a Ph.D. student at Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry, Moscow, Russia, from 1993 to 1997 and a postgraduate student at the Department of Geology, Moscow State University, Moscow, Russia, from 1988 to 1993, specializing in petrology and geochemistry.
In 1998, she received the Ph.D. degree in geochemistry and petrology from Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia. Her areas of expertise include experimental petrology, geochemistry of magmatic and hydrothermal processes, thermodynamics and kinetics, origin of magmas and mechanisms of volcanic eruptions, ore deposit formation. In 2015, she received the HDR degree from University of Toulouse (Toulouse, France). Now, she is now working on the ERC ADG PLANETAFELSIC project (2025 - 2030).

“Fragments of a lost world: Tracking down the first continents”
A turning point for the whole planetary evolution, climate and habitability was the onset of felsic (i.e., enriched in Si and Al) or continental crust formation during Hadean eon 4.5 – 4.0 Gyr ago. To date, this onset is traced using natural zircon mineral (ZrSiO4)-bearing rocks, as well as laboratory experiment and modelling. ERC Advanced PLANETAFELSIC project is based on cutting-edge experiments and modelling as well as field data acquisition on natural rock samples to construct a first comprehensive fundamental model of the primordial felsic crust formation and evolution on Earth, and very likely, Mars and Venus.
This film “Fragments of a lost world: Tracking down the first continents” is dedicated to the first scientific expedition to Australia to sample the Hadean zircon-bearing rock collection in collaboration with Curtin University in Australia in the framework of this ERC project directed by Dr. HDR Anastassia Borisova from Observatoire Midi-Pyrenees, Toulouse, France.
