The Italian project called “Pain and Hope” was created by the Italian students Ivonne Evalto and Mariapia Tulino and a quote from the greek team was: “We need hope-we live pain in our everyday life”.
The Italian pupils aimed at bringing something new and trying to create a link between different cultures, in particular the oriental culture. The work represents life and its complexity. The waves represent the trend of life that can mislead the human mind transforming calm and quiet into a storm that causes suffering, sorrow and pain.
Pain on the other hand can generate a new overwhelming feeling which unconsciously leads man to rebirth. The waves represent the difficulties of life while the phoenix, a mythological animal that rises from ashes, represents hope.
It is not an original work because it is the union between two works of the same artist, Katsushika Hokusai.
The drawing presents movement which makes it dynamic. The sensation of movement is also given by the phoenix that is opposed to the wave.
The work of art was achieved on a non-woven fabric appropriate for the technique and painted with acrylic color to make the painting as bright as possible.
