“Let's play it again – traditional games and activities as a way to integrate and activate young people”
As part of the Erasmus+ KA220 project, a successful educational mobility took place in Malta, focusing on the exchange of good practices and the exploration of the country’s cultural and educational environment. The core theme of the programme was the traditional games of the participating countries, aiming not only to encourage physical activity but also to bridge generations and highlight shared European heritage. Through learning and practicing these games, students developed teamwork, cultural awareness, and an appreciation of timeless values.
The host institution, Newark School Malta, prepared a rich programme of activities including presentations, workshops, sports activities, guided visits, and cultural experiences. Participants became familiar with Maltese history, daily life, and traditions, while also enhancing their collaboration and communication skills in an international context.
Throughout the mobility, students took part in traditional game sessions, sports competitions, cultural visits to key historical sites such as Valletta, Mdina, Rabat and the island of Gozo, and interactive discussions on the similarities and differences between the traditional games of each country. Older students also had the opportunity to teach traditional games to younger children, fostering intergenerational learning and leadership skills.
A creative element of the programme included the production of videos by the students, capturing their experiences and reflections. These were presented during the final session, followed by an open discussion on the outcomes of the mobility and ideas for future cooperation. The programme concluded with a certificate ceremony and a farewell event celebrating the strong bonds formed during the week.
This mobility experience strengthened linguistic, social, and cultural competences, reinforced the sense of European identity, and promoted values of cooperation, solidarity, and open-mindedness. Participants returned enriched with new skills, meaningful connections, and inspiration for future learning. The next project meeting will take place in Greece.
