Erasmus+ Mobility
in Utebo, Spain
A group of 7 Romanian students (10th grade) were part of a mobility at the IES TORRE DE LOS ESPEJOS in Utebo, Zaragoza, the host institution in this stage of our project. The mobility lasted for 5 days, during which the students visited the host school and took part in joint activities related to improving their digital skills, while also acquiring and improving their skills in intercultural dialogue and democratic citizenship. Also, within the framework of this mobility, the Romanian students had the opportunity to experience culture and civilization of the host country, through the cultural visits they participated in and the informal discussions and exchange of opinions about education and the life of young people with the Spanish students.
Students participated in a series of activities designed to explore the challenges migrants face when adapting to a new language and culture.
Students created and performed short dialogues in Spanish with the help of native speakers, experiencing the difficulties of learning and communicating in a new language.
After reading “Migration and War”, students discussed the emotional and social impact of migration, focusing on language as both a bridge and a barrier.
Teachers organized role-playing activities that allowed students to feel the challenges of arriving in a foreign country without knowing the language.
Spanish students acted as teachers, holding basic conversations in Spanish with their international classmates, promoting cooperation and intercultural understanding.
As a result, students developed greater awareness of linguistic barriers, improved teamwork, and enhanced their ability to communicate and empathize across cultures.
Students explored key concepts related to migration and social values through the reading of texts depicting real-life situations. They worked in groups to discuss the experiences and reactions of migrants and the communities involved.
During the group sessions, students debated guiding questions to encourage reflection and shared their conclusions. They then created impactful banners and posters using Canva, aiming to raise awareness about social values and citizens’ rights.
The activity concluded with the creation of “The Good Cosmopolitan Citizen’s Decalogue”, summarizing principles of empathy, respect, and global citizenship.
Students discussed various forms of discrimination and explored possible solutions through guided debate questions. Working in groups, they prepared and recorded short interviews addressing different aspects of the topic.
After about forty minutes of group work and dialogue preparation, each team presented its findings. Group spokespersons shared their main ideas and conclusions with the larger group during the final session.
Some students and teachers were also interviewed by the school newspaper to reflect on their experience during the mobility project.
The activity concluded with a fun Kahoot game about Utebo, Zaragoza’s monuments, Spanish culture, and the hosting school, encouraging cultural learning and engagement.
Romanian students attended classes at the host school in Utebo, Spain, where they introduced themselves and presented their country and school to Spanish students, fostering intercultural understanding and connection.
Students took part in a selfie tour around Utebo in international groups, exploring the town while collaborating and documenting their experience creatively.
They also visited the natural monument “Monasterio de Piedra,” one of the most beautiful natural sites in the region. Guided through stunning waterfalls and dreamlike landscapes, students and teachers enjoyed a day surrounded by nature.
Everyone brought their own food and snacks to share in the open air.
Students and host families gathered for a farewell celebration featuring a lively Jotas performance, showcasing traditional regional dances.
The event also included a shared meal with homemade dishes lovingly prepared by students and their families, creating a warm and festive atmosphere to conclude the mobility experience.
