Melissa Mendoza

Melissa Mendoza is the Principal at the Camino Nuevo Charter Academy - Sandra Cisneros Campus. The campus currently serves 600 TK- 8th students in the heart of Echo Park. As one of the school's founding teachers and current leader, Melissa is proud that her school provides bilingual education, Ethnic Studies, Art, music, dance and a strong restorative justice model. Prior to joining CNCA, she taught in bilingual kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms and served as a Bilingual Coordinator and Intervention teacher at an LAUSD school in MacArthur Park. She joined Camino first as a founding teacher at the Sandra Cisneros Campus, later serving as the assistant principal for 3 years and has been the Principal for the last 5 years. Melissa graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a double bachelors in Spanish and Latin American Studies. She received her teaching credential and Masters Degree from UCLA. She also completed her administrative credentials at Cal State University Dominguez Hills. When she's not at school, Melissa loves to hike and spend time with her husband and 4 year old son.
