Dr. Christina Budde is an assistant professor specializing in language and literacy education in the School of Education at the University of Delaware. She began her career teaching elementary students and ESL. Her passion in teaching language and literacy and supporting students’ social-emotional growth is echoed in her research where she seeks to understand the classroom practices and contexts that build upon the cultural and linguistic diversity of students as well as promote social-emotional well-being. Accordingly, her research focuses on the language and literacy development and instruction of early childhood and elementary age children from diverse backgrounds. She teaches courses at UD related to literacy instruction and teaching multilingual learners.
Dr. Claude Goldenberg is the Nomellini & Olivier Professor of Education, Emeritus, in the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University. A native of Argentina, his areas of research and professional interest center on promoting academic achievement among language-minority children and youth. Prior to his arrival at Stanford, Goldenberg was Professor of Teacher Education, Associate Dean of the College of Education, and Executive Director of the Center for Language Minority Education and Research (CLMER) at California State University–Long Beach. Dr. Goldenberg was also on the National Research Council’s Committee on the Prevention of Early Reading Difficulties in Young Children and on the National Literacy Panel, which synthesized research on literacy development among language-minority children and youth.
Mandy Hollister is an ESL teacher, instructional coach, and coordinator for UP Academy Holland, an elementary school serving students in grades K 1-5 in Dorchester, MA. She has worked with students learning English as an additional and foreign language ranging in ages from kindergarten to adults. Ms. Hollister is a graduate of Fresno State in California where she grew up. She later moved to Spain to teach English abroad and has since settled in Boston after completing her graduate degree in ESL at Simmons College. She is an avid consumer of all things literacy, and an advocate for multilingual learners' access to high-quality, grade-level content.
