Give Towards Learning Support Centers
Action4Equity and Love Out Loud, have been working to collaborate with community stakeholders to support an equitable, culturally responsive, and whole child education throughout remote learning and beyond. From the weeks leading up to the 2020-21 school year, this collaborative (under the wider group Equity Forsyth) is working to support the immediate and equitable need of funding and resources for Remote Learning Centers through partnerships with faith-groups, nonprofit organizations, and individual donors to provide safe spaces for scholars to learn and receive support during the remote learning period. The work of this collaborative is just one part of the wider struggle for systems change and raising up and supporting pro-equity school leadership committed to ensuring each child, in each school, in each community, is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged.
The estimated cost for a student to enroll at a Learning Support Center from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm across the district is $200/student/week (between $2,000 - $10,000/week/site for 10-50 students). The goal is to keep this cost as low as possible by partnering across the community and leveraging in-kind donations while still providing appropriate and high-level support. Consider supporting student(s) yourself or asking the groups or churches you are a member of to assist in supporting a group of students or the entire Learning Support Center throughout the remote learning season.
Additional Financial Support may also be needed for students who need extended day programs for parents who work outside of the bounds of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Pandemic school closings have shined a spotlight on the financial and resource disparity between schools and students and how they contribute to the lack of racial equity in academic achievement, access to high quality instruction, and healthy learning environments.
