Mission and Driving Profile-Based
Motor Design and Validation
Research overview
Mission profiles for urban air mobility vehicles and driving profiles for electric vehicles are translated into speed, torque, power, and thermal requirements for electric motor design.
The research combines vehicle dynamics, electric motor analysis, and system-level validation to develop propulsion motors that satisfy performance, efficiency, and reliability requirements under application-specific operating conditions.
Key research topics
Analyze UAM mission profiles and electric vehicle driving cycles to derive representative motor operating conditions and load requirements.
Design and optimize electric motors based on application-specific operating profiles while considering eletromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical performance.
Integrate electric motor models with UAM and electric vehicle dynamics to evaluate and validate propulsion-system performance under representative operating conditions.
