Presentation

The recent COVID-19 pandemic and the even more recent monkeypox outbreak, among other emerging diseases,  have shown the importance of improving the current modelling approaches as well as developing new ones to increase the capability of predicting the impact of future outbreaks of new emerging diseases. Some of these diseases are reintroduced by migratory flows of animals and persons, while others emerge from the evolution of biological pathogens and from the invasion of new habitats where humans were not present before.

This in-person workshop aims to bring together researchers in the field of epidemics with different backgrounds (mathematicians, physicists, computer scientists, engineers, and biologists) to present current problems as well as potential avenues of future research in epidemiology. Possible topics covered in the workshop are, among others: capturing human behaviour in epidemic modelling, outbreak analysis, epidemics on metapopulations, non-Markovian epidemic models, challenging modelling problems, etc.

We wish to have an exploratory workshop with discussions after each talk and talks that move away from closed presentations about already published research. We think that this format will enrich the attendees and the other participants. There will be room for poster presentations or short oral communications (15min). If interested, please submit an abstract of 2-3 pages through our website. PhD students presenting a poster will pay a reduced registration fee.

Organizers and invited speakers will be nearly half of the 40-50 participants in the workshop, and the remaining participants will be hopefully filled through an open application from the scientific community.

The workshop is organized by the group "Differential Equations, Modelling and Applications" (EDMA), at the department of Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, and Statistics, Universitat de Girona.

The event will take place at the Escola Politècnica Superior, Building "Edifici P4",  UdG - Campus de Montilivi, Girona, Catalonia (Spain).
