Since the earliest hero story Gilgamesh, humans have been telling essentially the same story over and over again. Joseph Campbell describe the heroic cycle in his book, The Hero With A Thousand Faces. Using Joseph Campbell's explanation of the heroic cycle as a template, I will analyze modern films. George Lucas has stated in interviews that he used Campbell to outline the original Star Wars movie, but we can also use it to analyze movies that were not explicitly base on it. For example the movie Happy Gilmore has many of the elements described by Campbell.
