A Hockey player wannabe finds out that he has the most powerful golf drive in history. He joins the P.G.A. tour to make some money to save grandma's house. Happy Gilmore was raised by his Grandma and is possessed of supernatural strength. He starts off in the normal world wanting to be a hockey player, but his inability to skate keeps him from his dream. After finding his grandfather's golf clubs he starts on a new adventure.
Chubbs discovers Happy at the driving range and offers to instruct him in the game of golf. Unable to fulfill his destiny because he lost his hand to an alligator, he decides to mentor Happy.
Shooter McGavin is the primary enemy of Happy. He has to be defeated in the PGA finals.
The PGA official was always watching Happy to make sure that he conformed to the rules of the PGA world.
Mr. Larson is portrayed as being on Happy's side the entire time, but they played off of the actors previous role as a Bond Villain to subvert expectations.
Viriginia Venit was for the most part an ally of Happy. She also plays the role of the prize princess that the male hero wins at the end of his quest.
However, when Happy loses confidence she changes from the virginal white to an evil black.
Happy envisions himself as a hockey player and has an amazing slapshot, but his inability to skate hampers his opportunities. As his girlfriend says when she dumps him, he "is going nowhere."
Chubbs recognizes Happy's talent at the driving range and invites him to go on a journey into the world of professional golf
