1 Peter 4:1-11
(60.08a)
(60.08a)
In the midst of a fiery trial, a group of early Christians gathered in secret, fearful yet hopeful. They shared their struggles and how their love for one another grew stronger despite their persecution. Just like 1 Peter 4:1-11 urges, they learned that prayer and love held them together. Their genuine care became a lifeline, demonstrating how love covers a multitude of sins and binds them in Christ.

1
Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh,
prepare yourselves to think the same way as Christ,
because whoever suffered in the flesh doesn't want to sin,
2 in order to live their remaining time in the flesh,
no longer for human passions, but rather
for the will of God.
On Purpose (4:3-6)
3 For you have spent enough time doing what the ungodly want to do,
having frequently participated in
sensuality,
self indulgence,
drunkenness,
wild parties,
idol worship,
4 in which they are surprised you don’t join them in the same wild and reckless living,
so they slander you.
5 They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6 This is why the gospel was proclaimed [to people who heard and then believed during] their lifetime, who have since died, so that
though they were judged in the flesh according to people,
they could live in the spirit according to God.
7
With Passion (4:7-8)
Now the consummation of all things draws near; therefore,
be self-controlled and clear-headed
for the sake of your prayers.
8 Most importantly, keep loving one another earnestly,
because love covers a multitude of sins.
9
For Others (4:9-11)
Be hospitable to one another, without grumbling.
10 Whatever specific grace you each have received, use it to serve one another,
as good stewards of the manifold grace of God:
11 If anyone speaks,
speak the messages of God.
If anyone serves,
serve with the strength which God supplies,
so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ,
to whom is the glory and the power throughout all the ages. Amen.
