Helping people grow
in their knowledge of, relationship in and service with
the Lord Jesus Christ.
(Ephesians 4:12-13; John 17:20–21; 2 Corinthians 5:18–20)
The purpose of every ministry is to fulfill the mission[1], the vision[2] and the tradition[3] of the Church. To accomplish this purpose, God has provided His Holy Spirit[4], His Holy Word[5], Spiritual Gifts[6] and Spiritual Leaders[7].
Because Jesus commanded His followers to “make disciples”, the fundamental purpose of every ministry must be to contribute to making disciples of Jesus. The word “disciple” means “follower” and “learner”; aka, an apprentice of Jesus, being mentored by a spiritually mature disciple.
Personal Discipleship is causing a person to grown in their knowledge of, relationship in and service with
the Lord Jesus Christ, which can be described as:
The process by which (a process, not a program or meeting)
a disciple of Jesus with a life worth emulating (qualification)
commits himself/herself for an extended period of time (commitment)
to a few individuals who have become disciples of Jesus, (focus)
for the purpose of aiding and guiding their growth to spiritual maturity, (purpose)
teaching and equipping them to likewise commit themselves to the next spiritual generation (goal/result) [8]
Therefore, I commit my life and ministry to be characterized by my:
Life Verse: (Conviction)
“Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.” (1 Timothy 4:16)
Life Goal: (Vision)
To take the things I have learned from God’s word and from Holy Spirit and commit them to faithful men who love and serve Jesus Christ and will teach others to do the same. (1 Timothy 2:2)
Life Purpose: (Mission)
To continually grow in my knowledge of, relationship in and service with the Lord Jesus Christ, and to assist others to do the same through Bible proclamation and explanation, personal discipleship and an exemplary lifestyle.
