Database Assessment
Project Description: For this project, I accessed and explored a database from freely available A-Z databases at the library of congress to find what makes it quality as a database.
I searched in an alphabetical order stating with A and found African American Sheet Music. I was interested in exploring this database because I am currently doing a AP project in my school where I have to research about a topic in African American studies and this database is very similar to my topic.
By accessing the database I observed:
What is the URL of the database you are accessing?https://library.brown.edu/cds/sheetmusic/afam/index.html.
This website was made by Brown University to view the collections of African American songs/music.
When you query the database, what type of information are you presented? Is it text? Abstracts of articles? Images? Videos?
This data base shows images of songs, basic and advanced searches, a slideshow on its history and texts of what its about.
Can you filter the results to help refine the results you receive?
You can filter results using the basic search and the advanced search.
Can you sort the results by any criteria? Date? Relevance?
The results can be sorted based on year, topic/subjects and artists.
What type of DBMS do you think they are using?
I think this website is using a relation database because you can search, filter and find information quickly because its connected to a well know organization.
Lessons Learned:
After completing this project I learned that how databases organized data so it is easy found. I learned there are several types of databases other than the most common one which is relational data bases, I also learned how to identify databases depending on how they are organized.
