Welcome to the 2024 RAMONES Summer School on Environmental Intelligence

The School will take place from July 3rd to July 7th, 2024

in Methana, Greece

Environmental Intelligence

New synergies between the distant disciplines of environmental modelling, advanced sensor research, social sciences, and Artificial Intelligence can lead to radically new approaches for creating and using dynamic models of the environment, including predictive modelling, scenario testing and real-time tracking. The framework of Environmental Intelligence is to build a systemic understanding of the socio-environmental inter-relationships, for instance to regulate or design policies and incentives for environmental sustainability and to track their effectiveness over time and to provide intelligible options for adjusting them.

The initiative aims at:

RAMONES project works towards shaping the Environmental Intelligence together with four EU-funded projects (Watchplant, SMARTLAGOON, i-Seed, ReSET). The School aims at addressing the open problems in environmental intelligence, identifying critical infrastructure and monitoring tools required in advancing the scientific and engineering solutions for the environmental challenges at global, and exploring the important of AI in forecasting risk to shape socio-environmental policies for the future. A special focus will be on monitoring environmental radioactivity in the marine environments with state-of-the-art detection instrumentation.

Academic Program

The academic program of the school will feature lectures by expert across various disciplines under the common thematic umbrella of Environmental Intelligence. We are planning to have a dedicated field course, where students will have the opportunity to profit from hands-on training and work under realistic conditions. The scientific program will be announced soon.

School Lecturers

Who can apply?

The RAMONES Environmental Intelligence School targets young researchers, particularly graduate students and post docs. Exceptional senior undergraduate students may also apply. The School will accept a maximum number of 30 students, so a competitive selection will take place if the number of application exceeds the available seats. Preference will be given to students from countries participating to EU H2020 and Horizon Europe.
