Managing the innovation process from the research perspective

Course description

A chance to gain entrepreneurial skills and work on commercialization of your own research! Working with Thomson Reuters IPR analysis tools, open specifically for this course.

The course covers IPR-analysis, market analysis and strategy, the development of business models, prioritization and steering of projects in the R&D portfolio, how to pitch a project for a new product or service to senior management or to venture capitalists, when to partner and how to start your own company, as well as technology/market risk analyses.

After the course, the students will have an understanding of what is required to run an innovation process according to modern "best practice". The students will also learn what will be expected of them when they start to work in R&D in a large multinational or a small startup company.

Lectures are given by experienced people from industry, start-ups, and from support services for innovation at KTH. Students will apply what they have learnt in the course in 3 workshops. The students will also examine their own technical research domain by means of advanced IPR-tools from Thomson Reuters.
