A Guide to Props
The props included below provide the minimum amount of illustrations deemed necessary for an assembly.
The list below is provided as a guide for use, with photos highlighting what I used.
All items are placed in the gift-wrapped box before the assembly starts, and brought out of the box at the relevant time. This helps to emphasise the point that all the things that come from the box are gifts to us.
There are opportunities to involve the children in advance of the assembly with collecting and making these props so be creative and do what works for your context!
Prop List:
Gift-wrapped box (representing 'The Greatest Gift' given to us - Jesus! )*
Baby doll (to represent baby Jesus from the Christmas story)*
Three signs reading - HOPE, PEACE and LOVE*
Globe (representing the whole world)*
Towel (symbolising drying the feet that Jesus washed at The Last Supper). You could use a bowl of water as well (but watch out if that gets messy in the assembly space!
Bread - for The Last Supper
Wine - for The Last Supper (I used blackcurrant squash, you could also use water with red food colouring or a red juice.)
Cross - Feel free to use as big or small a cross as possible.
*Note: These items are used in the Christmas Assembly 'The Greatest Gift', an interactive opportunity to enter the Christmas story. It doesn't matter whether you have done this assembly or not, but for those who have previously used the resource, it gives the children the opportunity to connect the dots between the two stories.
