After discovering the Double bass in high school, Louis immediately found an affinity with the instrumentand immersed himself youth orchestras scene in New Zealand, becoming principal bass of the National Youth Orchestra and performing as a soloist with his regional youth orchestra. He began his studies in 2012 at the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington under the guidance of Victoria Jones and Joan Perarnau Garriga (both from the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra). In 2013, he was a recipient of the NZSO fellowship, which gave him valuable orchestral experience working with this professional orchestra. Louis moved to the Netherlands in 2015 to continue his studies, completing his 2nd Bachelor degree at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Quirijn van Regeteren Altena (Asko/Schönberg ensemble) in 2018. Louis has just begun his Masters, also in The Hague, with a specialization in “Ensemble Academy”. While in Europe, he has been a member of the NJO (National youth orchestra of the Netherlands) for two years, where he was often placed as principal.

Throughout his undergraduate study, Louis has been a busy freelancer and a casual member with the semi-professional Orchestra Wellington, and has often received session work with the NZSO, recording numerous movie soundtracks.

While in Europe, Louis has been an active professional musician, performing regularly with various orchestras and ensembles across the Netherlands and Belgium; including Sinfonia Rotterdam, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Holland Symphony Orchestra, Ars Musica, Het Promenade Orkest and the Noord Nederlands Orkest. In 2018 he just won the academy position with the Gelder's Orkest and Orkest van het Oosten, and will perform numerous times with both orchestras.

During his studies, Louis has developed a keen interest in various musical directions; notably chamber music and arranging, both of which are developed within a newly emerging ensemble, Trapèze.
