Montreal has a reputation for being quite the culinary destination that has drawn in many of the world’s tourists. In fact, food tourism ranks Montreal quite high in must-visit places in Canada. Many who come to the city are always on the hunt for extreme eating challenges too. Enrico Frank Andreoli of Montreal shares some key locations in his hometown.
1. Pizza Spano
Located in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Pizza Spano is where the most famous pizzas in Montreal can be found. However, this place is also known for its extra-large meat lover’s pizza challenge. The worthy challenger is supposed to consume an all-meat pizza that weighs 3 kilograms, with absolutely nothing left over, in 45 minutes. Amazingly, the current record holder is an average-sized lady by the name of Veronica Boggia, who was able to do the feat in 17 minutes and 10 seconds.
2. McKibbins Irish Pub
Sometimes, extreme eating has less to do with the amount of food required to be recognized as one hearty eater. In the case of McKibbins Irish Pub, this has to do with an individual’s tolerance for spice too. According to Enrico Frank Andreoli, a Montreal native, the ghost pepper is known as one of the hottest chili peppers in the world, the key ingredient that this pub’s Rim Reaper Challenge is all about. This hot sauce from hell coats 12 chicken wings that the challenger is supposed to consume entirely.
3. l’Auberge du Dragon Rouge
This medieval-themed restaurant on Lajeunesse Street offers challengers one of the most exciting rewards, should they win, which is a lifetime of bottomless fries. However, the challenge isn’t easy at all. This comes as the Galette de Gargantua, a hamburger sandwich, whose beef patty alone weighs 1 kilogram. Moreover, it is topped with half a kilogram of bacon and a whole lot of vegetable fixings, making it a literally heavy meal that cannot be picked up with one’s hands. Enrico Frank Andreoli of Montreal finds it funny that such a gargantuan meal is rewarded with even more food.
