After having the opportunity of taking Dr. McGinnis', I have a greater understanding of the world around me and how I should work to perceive it differently. I also refined my skills on analyzing with the use of rhetoric, word choice, over all speaking skills, and many many more. I remember after finishing project 1 I was so confident I had done a great job, but after the critiques I understood in the places I went wrong and applied them on to future projects. To be honest I was a little scared when Dr. McGinnis explained that we had to do a rhetorical analysis on an article in Podcast form. This was definitely out of my comfort zone and something I had never done before. I took on the challenge and applied all the rules of rhetoric that you explained to us and surprisingly ended with a good grade. For project 3 group work is always a hit or miss so I just prayed that my groups would actually do the work. Thankfully I had an amazing group, we had great chemistry and I would say that we executed everything we did as a group. That includes both for project 3 and 4. The last and probably my favorite project to work out was project 5. The topic itself is definitely not something I support, but I just had a lot to talk about. I was also able to talk about a toxic aspect of my culture, "Machismo", and how it's something that most Hispanic people have had to experience.
Throughout the course I learned that my understanding of the world is one dimensional and definitely needs some refining. Dr. McGinnis' class taught me that English isn't just passages and essays. There's so much more to language and I was able to get a better understanding of why aspects of life happen the way they do. I plan to take these skills with me to my future English classes and into the real world.
