Gender Inequality
Many companies and business have maternity leave. They do not give that men the same treatment. I believe that being that mothers are home. They have the responsibility of taking care of the new born child. The men have to return to work. Fearing that they may get fired or a pay cut. Lauren states that the majority of the senior roles in the company were held by women. Mrs. Nutt Bello States, " In this country, society teaches us that a woman is more necessary for caretaking or that we somehow are better at it." And what permeates that idea even more are corporate policies that miss the point. Mrs. Nutt Bello added companies need to ensure that making paternity leave mandatory. So that no employee has to feel like they're making choice that will jeopardize their career. The point that Mrs. Nutt Bello is trying make is rather it's man or women. They all should have equal rights with maternity leave. Also that women doesn't always has to take on the responsibility of taking care of the child. That it can go both ways no matter what gender. It wasn't until 2016, New York State passed the Paid Family Leave Benefits Law, which took effect at the start of 2018. The measure also passed and was put into effect for Washington DC in 2020.
