Synopsis of the video
In the beginning, the girls are trying to get their boyfriends to quit working their day jobs with intentions to participate in sexual intercourse at home. Shown in the video, dirty dancing, touching, and moving in a particular manor allows this point to be very clear. Throughout the whole video, it's very repetitive and allows it to be very easy to identify the intentions of everyone involved. Making it clear that the girls want their boyfriends to quit their jobs solely so that they could be at home more with sexual intentions.
Sexual Angles
As a specific example, in the video at 1 minute and 48 seconds, the girl pulls out a ruler and pulls it out to 12 inches and sets it on the table implying a very obvious statement. As shown in the picture, the tension between both of them is very high. Something is clearly wanted by the girl as shown in the photo. As Jean Kilbourne says in, "Ways a Women Can Get Hurt: Advertising and Violence, on page 488, paragraph 1 , advertisers use sex as a. drive for people watching to become more engaged. By showing these types of things in popular song music videos, shown specifically in this video, it brings a clear picture and idea to the viewer and can easily send a message through not only the visuals, but also the lyrics. Kilbourne specifically says, "Sex in advertising is pornographic because it dehumanizes and objectifies people, especially women..." (page 488, paragraph 3).
Domination
Majority of the video, the girls are standing at their boyfriends job sites dancing all around anticipating for them to be wanting something. As I said, they are strongly implying that they want their boyfriends to quit their jobs to "work from home", which means wanting sexual intentions and wanting them to quit their jobs. In modern day, usually the guys are the ones sexualizing women and putting a name on the fact that normally men are the ones "doing the dirty". However, in this case these women are moving around in a particular way to give them men a show and show them what they really want. As said by Kilbourne on page 490 in paragraph 3, she says, "The very worst kind of man for a women to be in an intimate relationship with, often a truly dangerous man..." This further proves my point that typically, its the man to be the most leading on an "dangerous" one.
Conclusion
As I stated above, mens impact can really hurt a women in many ways, mentally and physically. Most of the time men have dominance. Their comments and gestures more than certainly can take a toll on ones self esteem, whether they meant to or not. Knowing that a women can feel sexualized or mistreated over a video can be frightening. Society has com to this unexpected outcome and this is what needs to be changed.
