Background
In the commercial "The Axe Effect" it starts off with a woman laying in the bed. She gets up and pulls her pants up and heads out the door as she is walking outside it shows all the guys looking at her. The camera shows close up of her hips and butt. You can't tell much about what is going on around her other than the men staring at her as she is walking by. She walks out of one door and keeps going through other doors as she is losing clothes through each door. Until she gets to the last door she is in just a bra and panties. She grabs a shot pull ball and throws it though the window of the guy that is putting on Axe cologne. When she busts out his window she grabs a pole vault stick and throws herself through the window so she can be with the guy. At the end of the commercial it shows clothes being thrown out the broken window insinuating them having sex. It ends the commercial with saying "the axe effect."
In this picture you see the lady in bra and panties using a pole vault to throw herself through the window of a man that is putting on Axe fragrance. The commercial is advertising the strong effect of spraying Axe on you will bring in beautiful women. Throughout the commercial she only focus on getting to the man spraying the fragrance. She walks through all these other men that are looking at her but she does not pay them any attention because she is only focused on getting to him. In killbourne's article "Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt," she explains that the advertisement world wishes to objectify and present products and women as sexual objects used to relate the central idea of perfection and female sexuality to that certain product. In Kilbourne's article, she states, "pornography can be considered mainstream," (Kilbourne 577). In today's world porngraphy is everywhere in commercials and we may not even pay it any attention. I know I didn't realize how much sexual content was in movies, commercials, songs, and literally everywhere you look until after I read Killbourne's article now I pay more attention to the commercials and music videos.
In this picture you see a close up of the ladies breast as she is getting ready to throw the shot put through the window. This part of the commercial shows a perfect example of exploiting women and using them as objects. Advertisements main purpose is to sell a product so what better way to sell a product by thinking a fragrance will bring you sexual desires. When you put sex in advertisements 9 time out of 10 you will sell the product a lot faster than if you did not put it in there Killbourne stated that in her article. After watching the commercial you would think they were using the guy as the sex object because of the way she was going after him, but they ended up using her with showing her breast, butt, hips, and putting her in bra and panties to get what she wanted.
At the end of the commercial she made her way to him through the window and it shows her tackling him and falling down then the next thing on the video is clothes being thrown out the window like they are in this picture clearly insulating they are having sex.
Conclusion
So after watching the commercial "The Axe Effect" it shows a prime example of what Killbourne talks about in her article "Two Way a Woman Can Get Hurt" it shows the objectifying women and shows women being used as sexual toys. It gives the advertisers the clout they need to sell the product no matter how or what they have to do to sell the product they will do it. These ads and commercials just show that some women, not all, like the be treated in this manner.
