We are a team. Though we range from elementary to high school and come from different places in Taiwan, we are united as one. We plan and have meetings online and in person before the camp is held. We throw in our own ideas, and use the methods we learn English to teach students. Our hope is the same, to help students from suburban elementary learn English. To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world. And we believe that English is the key to a whole new world where we can enlarge our scope of knowledge and open our eyes to the entire world.
We teach students to read English books, and tell them the meanings of each word through description in English. We believe that we shouldn't learn English from translation, instead we should embrace it and learn from the language itself. After teaching them, we film them reading the stories, make videos from these films, and show it to the students. By doing so, we hope to show them that, yes, they have the ability to read a English book, and can do far more if they start learning harder.
We play English educational games. For example : Simon Says, Hangman, London Bridge is Falling down, etc. We hope by playing these games we can improve their vocabulary and simple sentences.
We read simple English stories to students, and explain the vocabulary and sentences to them. We also ask questions, and ask them to answer in English.
We make art projects and teach them the English vocabulary of the project, and we, volunteers, teach in English and by doing so, also improve our English speaking skills and the ability to give a impromptu speech.
We teach the students and the volunteers slowly develop a better method of teaching young children. We hope by talking to them in English, they could get used to having a conversation in English and not fear the prospect of talking to a foreigner.

Whoever teaches learns in the act of teaching, and whoever learns teaches in the act of learning. In these two wonderful and eventful days, I have taken the role of teaching and have learned a lot through this amazing experience. Before this event, I have always been the participant of a summer camp, and through those times of learning. I have also been learning how to teach. Through these two days of teaching and learning, I have learned the methods of teaching young students.
Also as a hostess of this summer camp, I’ve learned how to organise a summer camp plan and work with my fellow volunteers. It’s all about teamwork. Without a team, I could never have done it alone. We cooperate and work together to teach these students. And through this experience, I’ve learned the importance of communication with the volunteers.
He who teaches, learns. When teaching these students, I’ve improved my English speaking skills. Not only have I learned to teach, but have also improved my impromptu speech giving skills.
All in all, I really loved this experience and hope to host another summer camp again.
Two days of being a teacher to all these kids was an amazing experience. After all the times that I was the kids down below, following the teacher's instructions, I never thought one day I would be the one to be leading kids to do activities. And for once I look at them through a teacher's perspective, and I noticed that we're not just teaching them, we're also learning from them. Some of them may be a little naughty and too hyperactive, and it blew my mind how tiring looking after kids could be. However, you feel an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment when you see them go home smiling to their parents, telling them what they did today. So I am very thankful to have this chance to meet all these wonderful children who tried their best to participate in every activity we prepared. I hope they had fun in this English camp and grow up to be successful people in the future.
Hi, my name is Alice. In these two days, it not only increased my reading ability and teaching skills. This is my first time to be a leader, although I’m a little nervous at first, but after getting along with these children, their smiles relieved all my nervous mood. Watching them being interested in English because of our camp, all our devotion was worth it. It is my pleasure to enjoy this camp at Jing Jhong elementary school if there is another chance in the future. There is no denying that I will be very glad to attend it.
Hi, my name is Amy. I'm very happy to have the opportunity to enjoy in this camp and to help the work. In just two days, I experienced the assistance teacher help work. Thank you for the principle and the school for giving us the rich experience
Hi, my name is Jill. I am really happy that I have the opportunity to join this English camp this summer. And I feel happy that I can grow up with a group of children. Not only have I learned widely but also improved my teaching skills and leadership also I hope I can participate in an activity like this in the future. At last, thank you for everything and for enjoying this summer camp. I hope some day we can cooperate with each other again.
In these two days of English camp, I have learn many things. At first, many of the kids were very shy. Most of them were very afraid to talk to us. While I was teaching them how to make the puppets, some of the kids didn’t understand what I was saying at that time. But still, most of the children tried to focus on the activities! It moved me very much at their attention and joy.
On the second day, the kids were willing to share their school life to me. They talked to me and played some games with me. Although I felt very tired of keeping them quiet, I think it’s a great experience in my life.
I am very happy to have this opportunity to participate in this camp with those elementary students. I was worried at the beginning that I wouldn’t know anything, and that I didn’t know anyone. But after I started teaching, I realized that my fears were in vain. The students are very eager to teach me how to operate and how to teach them how to play the game.
There were a lot of Try & Error in this camp, but I had passed that difficult time. I have learned and the efforts are more important than talent in this camp.
Thanks for the students’ cooperation, and the school's generosity for letting us host this camp here.
Hi, my name is Corrine. In these two days, I became a helper. I taught kids how to read books, I taught kids how to make art projects, and through the act of teaching, I improved my English.
Hello everybody, my name is called Lesley. In these two days, I became a helper for the camp. Now I know what it is like to be a teacher, and it is hard. And as a student I think that I should be a good girl and not make my teacher's job harder.
