Waking the baby mammoth is a short story about a group of scientists discovering a frozen baby mammoth from the tundra era that they named Lyuba. This baby mammoth was special because she was so carefully preserved in the ice and many scientists wanted to discover the reason she had died. the project to "awaken" Lyuba was not to make her come alive again in person but in spirit through memories of her and her mother and her times in the Tundra. the scientists all described a feeling of anxiety whilst extracting Lyubas DNA to discover what she may have died of but even though she may be dead she is always alive in our minds, through film images and in our hearts.
