⏰ I know grades can be stressful, so I try my best to give you feedback as soon as possible. Quizzes are auto-graded (yay!), but essays and other homework assignments take some time. I aim to get essays graded within a week and other assignments within a couple of days.
📝 You will receive my feedback in a variety of ways. Here are some of them:
Rubric scores
Comments in the textbox of your assignment
Annotated comments directly on your paper.
❓Not sure how to view feedback on your assignments? Here are some helpful tutorials!
☑️At any time you can check your overall grade through the "Grades" tab in Canvas. Please see me in office hours if you'd like more information on your grade. 😊
Writing is a process. It's a practice, not a perfect.
What I mean is that writing is not just about the product (your essay); it's also about the process--all of the work you put into writing that essay. In my grading, I make sure to honor that process by making your writing process part of your grade.
Writing Assignments: 50%
Homework (pre-writing, exercises, etc.): 10%
Quizzes: 10%
Final Research Paper & Project: 30%
✴️I will occasionally announce extra credit assignments. ✴️

87-89% = B+
80-86% = B
77-79% = C+
70-76% = C
60-69%= D
Below 60 = F
Assignments are always due on 🚨Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 11:59pm PST. 🚨
🗓 Every assignment has a due date, rubric (most of the time!), and a deadline for submissions. Participants are expected to submit assignments on or before the assigned due date, which, in turn, allows me time to review your work and provide meaningful feedback.
⭐️Due dates have been designed in the course to ensure time is provided to allow you to produce your best work.⭐️
⏰ Time management is tough and life happens, so sometimes we miss deadlines!
🍀You're in luck: most late submissions are accepted if you use the "Late Pass" assignment on our Canvas home page.
🤚Simply click the assignment and fill out the form. I will get back to you within 24-48 hours. Be careful about the due date you choose. 😉
Small assignments may not be available for late submission. Assignments that miss the new due date may be subject to late penalties. Assignments that are several weeks late may also not be able to be submitted late.
👉Please understand that due to the design of the course, I may not be able to accept late work, and when a module closes or it's finals week, I may not be able to accept work from a closed module. 👈
🚨Late passes cannot be used for rough drafts due to the timing of peer review. You can, however, receive partial credit for late rough drafts. 🚨
Learning is an ongoing process! Just completing an assignment provides some learning, but looking at feedback and revising the assignment is a much better way to learn that material.
You may revise and resubmit some of your assignments for more points. Please use my feedback on your assignments to guide your revision. Use the late pass request to request a revision.
You will submit some assignments to Canvas with a tool called turnitin.com, which checks for plagiarism and also gives feedback on grammar. Please think of it as a tool that can help you become a stronger writer! 😊Turnitin.com is an accurate plagiarism checker, but if you have questions or concerns, please contact me.
Please use MLA formatting for essays or formal writing assignments, including:
an MLA header
12 point font such as: arial, palatino, times new roman
Double-spaced
You can find out more about MLA from this helpful website: OWL Purdue. Please see specific assignments on Canvas for more information on formatting, requirements, and rubrics.
While I expect your essays to be proofread and generally grammar-free, I also understand that English not might be your first language. I myself am a terrible speller, so I'll let you in on my secret: Grammarly, which is a great tool for helping you fix grammar!
👉In order for me to best keep track of your grades, please remember to submit assignments to the assignment box or to the assigned area noted in the assignment. 👈Thank you! 🙏
🚨To ensure that assignments are not lost and so that I can grade them correctly, I am unable to accept or grade assignments submitted via assignment comments, Canvas message, nor email. 😉
I understand that sometimes life gets busy, but I ask that you please do not reuse essays from other classes. If for some reason you would like to reuse an essay, let's talk! 😊
To help reduce that stress and improve the likelihood of getting your best grades allow yourself the time and space you need to do your best work.
Please try not to procrastinate, and if you get stuck on an assignment, reach out to me or one of your peers!
I welcome your questions and I'm happy to help you think through your ideas so you can successfully complete an assignment. You know how to reach me, right?
