Newpoint Partnership, Inc. is a non-profit organization that partners with men who have been released from prison and feel a calling to serve in the ministry. Newpoint works with the Christian Brother providing support and helping him grow into a leader and builder of the kingdom of God. They partner with Bible-believing churches to engage their membership in loving and helping them understand the needs of these Christian Brothers. This is a fairly new organization having only been formed a little over a year ago. The needs that we focused on helping this organization with included getting their Facebook page set up to receive donations in time for Giving Tuesday 12/1/20.
Due to restrictions of Covid-19 we had to remain social distanced but overcame this obstacle by communicating by email, phone, text, and even Zoom. Most of our meetings were held via Zoom because it was easy for everyone to join in to include our service partner's executive director, Mr. Richard Angerer.
After getting administrator privileges to the organization's FB page we were able to set up a link for #GivingTuesday as well as create an event on their Facebook page.
After discussing the benefits of a mass email service, we were given the list of emails for the organization. These addresses were input into the MailChimp app and created a mass email account for the partner. This will allow the organization to schedule regular monthly, bimonthly, etc. emails to all of their supporters. This is beneficial so that individual emails are not required and it allows them to schedule emails in advance at their convenience to stay in regular communication with supporters.
We discussed adding memes with our partner to his website to help grab the reader's attention with visuals.
Throughout this project, I was able to use the skills and applications that I have learned throughout the semester. By assisting this organization, I was able to apply the principles of the articles that were read throughout the course regarding privilege, oppression, and what we can do to help make a difference. I believe that I am much more aware of the types of rhetoric that are used every day and the different ways that we communicate with people on a daily basis. I feel that this course will benefit me throughout my time in college as well as throughout my career.
