Today we will be reviewing an article by Dr. Scott Atlas, “Science says: Colleges should all reopen (with precautions).” We will be evaluating this article for Atlas’ use of rhetoric including his point of view/biases, tone, and the affects he was hoping to achieve with his readers. We will be reviewing his use of appeals including those of authoritative sources (ethos), as well as statements of emotional (pathos), and logical (logos) context. Atlas provides statistical information to support his views and we will review whether they are biased or unbiased. I believe we all have an opinion about this topic and that for many it is a touchy subject. This topic is one that has affected each one of us in one way or another. It has changed the way our classes are held, to our ability to interact with one another. While some are adjusting and seem to be fine, there are others that it has proved difficult for with their ability to comprehend and learn the material. At the conclusion of our review, I will discuss my opinions on the article, and my feelings about colleges reopening. I am interested in what the rest of you think as I imagine this could be an interesting discussion! Please make sure to listen and share your thoughts and opinions as well.
