MWA1 SLO's:
Rhetorical Situation and Genre
A. Analyze, compose, and reflect on arguments in a variety of genres, considering the strategies, claims, evidence, and various mediums and technologies that are appropriate to the rhetorical situation
-I analyzed a book that’s genre is Memoir and composed a review on it. I used a book as my primary source and a video interview on YouTube as a secondary source. After gathering the necessary information from the primary and secondary sources, I typed my review on a word document citing information from both sources. After doing so, I learned to better analyze, compose, and reflect on arguments considering strategies, claims, evidence, and various mediums and technologies appropriate to the rhetorical situation.
Writing as a Social Act
B. Describe the social nature of composing, particularly the role of discourse communities at the local, national, and international level
-When it comes to a community it depends on the community itself. All communities are different in various ways but involve a small group of people. When it comes to national, it involves a bigger group of people than a community audience, a single country. International also involves a large group of people but instead of a single country like national, it’s two or more. So, with that being said, it is the different audiences and how careful you have to be when composing. After doing so, I now know how to better compose while considering the audience.
Writing as a Process
C. Use multiple approaches for planning, researching, prewriting, composing, assessing, revising, editing, proofreading, collaborating, and incorporating feedback in order to make your compositions stronger in various mediums and using multiple technologies
-The approaches I used for planning were first deciding what I wanted to review, after doing so and picking a book, I found a secondary source which was a video interview with the author on YouTube, I then read the book and used both the primary source and secondary source to write a review. Doing so I now know how to make my compositions stronger in various mediums while using multiple technologies.
Research
H. Integrate others’ positions and perspectives into your writing ethically, appropriately, and effectively in various mediums and technologies
-When it comes to writing, it is important to consider their positions and perspectives, ethically, appropriately, and effectively in various mediums and technologies. In this project I considered both my primary and secondary source’s positions and perspectives, doing so I created a stronger review. After doing so, I now integrate others’ positions and perspectives into my writing ethically, appropriately, and effectively in various mediums and technologies.

Target SLOs:
Rhetorical Situation and Genre
A. Analyze, compose, and reflect on arguments in a variety of genres, considering the strategies, claims, evidence, and various mediums and technologies that are appropriate to the rhetorical situation
-I analyzed genre as a whole while keeping my focus on horror specifically. I chose two films, SMILE and MAMA while using secondary sources to help support what I was trying to say. For my secondary sources, I used the Encyclopedia Brittanica and Dictionary.com. After explaining what I know about horror and the two horror films I chose, I applied the secondary sources chosen for support. I typed my work on a word document while citing my sources. After doing so, I learned to better analyze, compose, and reflect on arguments considering strategies, claims, evidence, and various mediums and technologies appropriate to the rhetorical situation.
Grammar and Usage
D. Improve your fluency in the dialect of standardized edited American English at the level of the sentence, paragraph, and document
-American English is something I have known since I was born. Every time I write a paper and receive feedback, I gain knowledge on how to better my use of sentences and paragraphs to get the message I want across through a document. Each sentence should have meaning in each paragraph throughout the document. For this assignment, I started off by introducing my topic, then moving on to the two body paragraphs giving an analysis of the two horror films I chose, and ending with the conclusion of the introduction and the two body paragraphs. The other important thing while writing in a document is using proper grammar, while reviewing my work, I learned without proper grammar there is no flow.
Reflection
F. Evaluate your development as a writer over the course of the semester and describe how composing in multiple genres and mediums using various technologies can be applied in other contexts to advance your goals
-After completing this project, I have an even better understanding of genre as a whole, with horror as my specialty. I learned to properly analyze the horror genre and understand the expectations. I was able to apply my own knowledge while correcting it as I went on and learned what was right. With the new knowledge I gained, I now appreciate genre as a whole and understand there is more to every genre than what we think. Now when I go to a horror film, I know what I should expect. Even if I go to a film of any other genre all I have to do is understand each expectation.
Research
J. Analyze and describe the writing and research conventions of an academic field in order to understand the different ways of creating and communicating knowledge
-As I stated before, something as simple as grammar makes the work flow and understandable. There are other things such as spelling, punctuation, capitalization, etc. I appreciate the fact that there is a such thing as review. It is always good to review your work to come across mistakes that may have been made, just like it is good to have peers review your work so there is no bias or things you think are correct but aren't, Every time I start any type of writing assignment, my goal is to make it understandable. Another example of something that helps is formatting. Most of my teachers prefer MLA 8. While citing secondary sources you add the necessary information for the reader at the bottom of a works cited page for their convenience, so if they have questions, or simply want to overview the facts themselves.
