Medium: Digital Art Collage
Concept/Relation to Research Questions: My goal for my creative project/artifact is to display the wonderful and unique differences of wedding dresses and traditions from around the world. The project will be a multi-page collage that will have each page dedicated to a different country/culture. My goal for this project is to engage and help the viewer understand the uniqueness of each culture by displaying the specific country’s wedding traditions and wedding attire.
Length to Prepare: This project should take me a day to complete. My goal is to have at least five slides.
Chinese Wedding Traditions:
~ The Lion Dance
~ Handing out red envelopes with money
~ The bride dressed in a red and gold cheongsam or qipao
~ Decorated food
~ The bride wearing a Chinese headdress, called a Guan
Indian Wedding Traditions:
~ The bride wearing a sari, or lehenga
~ Exposed arms, feet, and hands covered with henna
~ Riding on horses or camels
~ Red envelopes
~ Lots of dancing and music!
~ Applying haldi (a turmeric paste on the bride and groom for good luck
Philippine Wedding Traditions:
~ The money dance
~ Unity candle
~ Unity cord
~ Anahaw fans
~ Mano po (gesture of respect)
~ The throwing of rice
~ Lots of food!
~ The groom wearing a barot tagalog
~ The bride wearing a filipiniana
Korean Wedding Traditions:
~ The presentation of wooden ducks
~ The Paebaek (tea ceremony)
~ The bride and groom both wearing a hanbok
~ Hapgeunrye (drinking from the same cup)
~ Families from both sides partake in special ceremonies
~ Gifts of dates and chestnuts
American Wedding Traditions:
~ The wedding party (bridesmaids, groomsmen, maid of honor, and the best man)
~ Cutting the cake
~ Bouquet and garter toss
~ The bride walking down the aisle with her father
~ The flower girl and the ring bearer
~ The getaway car
~ The exchange of rings
~ Carrying the bride over the threshhold
~ The bride wearing a white wedding dress
~ The groom wearing a suit
~ The ceremony and the reception
