After doing both of the Required Readings for your group's Concept articles,
Fully elaborate on one of the major Concepts that you think applies. Describe it in your own words, refer to the part of the text that's more relevant, and do a quick analysis on some examples.
Mention at least two other conceptual threads that you want to do more research on.. Why? What do you think you'll discover?
Provide a few examples of Real Things that could be used to show your point.
~ One Major Concept: “[The fashion adoption process] involves five basic stages: awareness, interest, evaluation, trial, and adoption” (22). This quote from Theories of Fashion describes the system of fashion and how clothing styles become a trend. This is important because every wave of fashion fundamentally starts with awarreness of the clothing and ends with its adoption. I used this quote in my Literature Review to describe the birth of the white wedding gown.
~ Two Conceptual Threads: Two other conceptual threads I want to research include product innovation and the flow of fashion. The trickle-up, trickle-down, and trickle-across flows are super interesting and I would love to learn more about real clothing examples where we can clearly see these types of flows.
~ Real Things: Pictures of wedding gowns to help illustrate my point, and a direct quote from Amy Tan's The Joy Luck Club:
“And then it occurs to me. They are frightened. In me, they see their own daughters, just as ignorant, just as unmindful of all the truths and hopes they have brought to America. They see daughters who grow impatient when their mothers talk in Chinese, who think they are stupid when they explain things in fractured English. They see that joy and luck do not mean the same to their daughters, that to these closed American-born minds "joy luck" is not a word, it does not exist. They see daughters who will bear grandchildren born without any connecting hope passed from generation to generation” (Tan 31).
