Chiang Mai

Welcome to Chiang Mai, the cultural capital of northern Thailand. Located in a lush valley surrounded by mountains, Chiang Mai is a city with a rich history and a vibrant culture.

Chiang Mai was founded in 1296 by King Mengrai, who named it "Chiang Mai" which means "New City" in the Lanna language. The city was the capital of the Lanna Kingdom for over 400 years, and it played an important role in trade and commerce between China and Southeast Asia.

Today, Chiang Mai is a popular tourist destination, known for its temples, palaces, and museums. The city is also home to a number of hill tribes, who have their own unique cultures and traditions.

• Wat Phra Singh: This is one of the most important temples in Chiang Mai. It was built in the 14th century and is home to a number of Buddha images, including the Phra Singh Buddha image, which is considered to be one of the most sacred Buddha images in Thailand.

• Wat Chedi Luang: This temple is another important landmark in Chiang Mai. It was built in the 14th century and is known for its large chedi, or stupa.

• The Night Bazaar: This is a must-visit for any shopper. It is a large market that sells everything from souvenirs to clothing to electronics.

• Doi Suthep: This is a mountain located about 15 kilometers from Chiang Mai. It is home to a temple and a viewpoint that offers stunning views of the city.
