Budapest is well-connected to major cities across Europe and beyond, with direct flights to nearly every European capital and major international hub. Over 30 airlines operate direct flights to the city from a wide range of destinations.
For travelers from North or South America, or other regions without direct service to Budapest, convenient one-stop connections are available via major European hubs such as Amsterdam (KLM), Frankfurt and Munich (Lufthansa), Paris (Air France), London (British Airways, easyJet), Vienna (Austrian), Zurich (SWISS), and Istanbul (Turkish Airlines). These hubs offer multiple daily flights to Budapest, ensuring flexible and easy travel.
Budapest has also expanded connections to major Asian cities, including Beijing, Seoul, Shanghai, and Dubai. Long-haul travellers can connect through European and Middle Eastern hubs like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, London, Vienna, Zurich, Doha, and Istanbul, all with frequent flights to Budapest.
Low-cost airlines such as Ryanair, Wizz Air, easyJet, Norwegian, Eurowings, and Jet2 also provide extensive and affordable connections from over 90 European cities.
The Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport is located 22 km from the city center and is easily accessible by public transportation, taxi, or airport shuttle.
Since Hungary is a member of the European Union and a member of the Schengen Area (21 December 2007), non-EU country citizens and visitors from some overseas countries can enter Hungary only with a valid entry visa. Entry visas can be obtained at any Hungarian embassy or consulate and sometimes at border crossing points.
The Schengen regulations are only applicable for a stay not exceeding 90 days. For stays longer than 90 days, the national laws of Hungary apply, typically requiring a long-stay visa or residence permit.
